It's just an UNDERPAINTING; no need to get embarrassed:)

I was getting frustrated with the last painting I was working on because it seemed too cold. I wanted it to be cooler in temperature, but the colors were so flat to me. I was reading through a book the other night and it gave me an idea. I decided to do an underpainting in warm colors, and so far I'm very pleased with how it's coming along. The warm colors seem to show through and I really like the activity that so many unmixed colors creates. Since this is an experiment, I'll go ahead and finish the first one and then finish the second and compare the two. I'm really excited because I've been working really hard to breathe life into my work, but found instead that I tend to over-work and muddy the pieces. Hopefully this new technique will help to solve some of these old issues. One other thought: remember that this is only the beginning of the painting, it will hopefully change quite drastically as I work. Finished pictures soon to come.

What I do on days when I'm not fit to be around people:
Go for run
Break out the Playdough
This:

I decided not to gloss this one. maybe I'll have a few more anti-social days this week and I'll be able to finish:)

the dilemma

I've been working on this project for someone's birthday and have gotten a little stuck. I am a huge fan of the gloss/texture/gel that I have been using but I wanted more muted colors for this piece. I want it to breathe a little and not feel so heavy. I'll get back to work tonight and I'll post an after pict. soon. Happy fall y'all!

Boss of the Gloss

I go a little crazy with the glazing gel. I seem to have no self-control there:) Happy belated birthday M. Please excuse the shine.

Old made New

Today in my spare time:) I touched up some very old paintings of mine. Most of the work consisted of varnishing and painting edges, I added a signature and enjoyed some memories. I couldn't bring myself to paint over these or even make any major changes. I guess it's fun to see where I've been. The tulips are the beginning of my last spring painting for the year. I've heard that you're supposed to paint in season and I don't know if that's the real reason or not, but I'm looking forward to fall colors.

Finished the 2nd

I had good intentions of cleaning the basement today and this is what I did instead. I painted this (and another very much like it) a couple of years ago. The colors on the one I've kept have been bothering me and today I did something about it. I just finished coating it with some heavy gloss gel medium and it should be dry tomorrow. The basement, like my dishes will be waiting for me tomorrow like any good friend. BTW the painting is from a picture in an old magazine. I think mine has been changed enough not to resemble the original too closely but when I find the artist's name maybe I'll post it.

Away

I've been away for a few weeks and this is what I've worked on. The gel that I used makes all of the photographs shiny, but it's really not that bad. I've painted three different pieces from the same group of photos that I took back in the spring. It has been a fun trip but I'm looking forward to my studio/kitchen back at home:) Happy B-day Grandmas!!! P.S. I LOVE TEXTURE---

Can't see the forest...

I had finished this painting a while ago...months and months, but today my friend and I sanded and painted it's frame. It's looking lovely and I'm feeling especially handy having used so many tools today:) Here are some more of the baby pict.s ...hopefully.

Anniversary

I think I've finished the tulips..happy anniversary C and D wish I could have given you a pile of diamonds or something. Isn't that the 15 year gift?

Sleepless in St. louis

I have been sleeping day and night literally for the last five days. I guess that's all over now because I woke up at three this morning with paint on the brain. My sister had suggested I try a line of baby room paintings for my etsy site, so I painted a few and re-worked some old ones. I also experimented with some different acyrlic mediums ie: gels and pastes, to achieve some textural effects. I'm thinking about incorporating some fabrics into some of the baby paintings. Oh, I couldn't get all of the baby ones uploaded, you'll have to see them on etsy...if I can figure THAT out:)

Spring in my step:)

I started this piece a few weeks ago and thanks to a sick day and rainy weather, I've finally been able to work on it a bit more. I'm not sure how pleased I am with the composition.I'll make some changes soon. J says it's "old lady colors". All I know is that I'm in LOVE with spring this year and want to keep it around as long as possible. I am excited to see how it turns out and I'll post an "after" picture soon.

I'm really pleased with the way this turned out. I guess I could have waited for the paint to dry before taking the pict...no I really couldn't:) Suggestions are welcome....

work in progress

This is the under painting for a new piece I'm working on. It's 24x30, and hopefully I'll post some picts. of the finished product this week. I love spring. I'm thinking about health, vitality, and light, and hope these these will come through in my compositions.
